Fresh from a brilliant performance at the Stoop in the Harlequins u12 touch tournament (a pre-cursor the big summer kick off), Esher u12 can reflect on a wonderful 24/25 season with huge amounts of pride.
The whole team have stepped up from Mini rugby to junior rugby fabulously and have shown the passion and effort that we come to expect from young Esher players and future first team contenders! We’ve had a tremendously full year as a team. Alongside training on a Wednesday and Sunday we’ve been out for team hikes, have had a tough session at a local gym (which the boys loved) and have been amazingly supported by parents in fundraising efforts to support the boys going on tour! An off field highlight being the quiz hosted at the club where over 120 people had superb evening that raised over £1000 to support the team!
On the field, the players enjoyed competing in their first Surrey Waterfall Cup competition and showed their grit and resilience throughout the competition in a series of thrilling performances against quality opposition. The future is certainly bright for this squad of young talent. On finals day, in the bright sun of early summer, the team drew their final against OCs but as OCs scored the first try, they took the trophy. Every player walked off that pitch with their heads high knowing they had given everything in pursuit of the W!
Tour was a fitting reward for the players, coaches and parents after a hard-fought season. This year the u12 went to Malvern in Gloucestershire. What a weekend it was. We played in a tournament at Long Levens RFC and in recognition of the efforts in training all season and throughout the Waterfall Cup, the team won three of their four games convincingly. The main talking point was not just the wins, but how the team won! They came together as a group stronger than ever before putting in a series of performances that are the epitome of Esher and rugby values! Well done to every player – you all have a dazzlingly bright future in rugby.
The last day of tour was spent climbing, zip lining and navigating very high assault courses (I can confirm that as parents and coaches also took part) before we took the team to Kingsholm to see Gloucester demolish Exeter chiefs in a thrilling game! The highlight of which was when the boys enticed Ugo Monye over and appeared live on TnT sports and later on Instagram.

They were all delighted.
So in summary, we finish this season with enormous pride in the players and with much to look forward to in the future. As the coaching team, we’re especially proud that every player got to play Waterfall Cup rugby, and that we finish the season with more players on the books than we started with! The future looks bright.
A huge note of thanks to the whole coaching team, the dedicated committee and all the parents who support the team. We go into u13 pre-season with vigour and the boys have been telling me how much they are looking forward to their summer fitness training (well, maybe that’s a slight embellishment).
Well done lads, what a season….onwards…
