On Thursday 18th March Esher Rugby Golf Society (“ERGS”) were once again fortunate to play at New Zealand Golf Club (“NZGC”) for our main competitions, The Alan Prentice Cup and The Panton Trophy.

For those that don’t know NZGC is a heathland treasure nestled into pine forest around West Byfleet and regularly features in the top 100 golf courses in the UK.

The ERGS members gathered at 8.00 for coffee and bacon rolls and timings, rules and regulations quickly agreed. It was even possible to re gig groups for a late arrival. Playing on the “bogey” card scoring was as expected with Tim Christopher and Ray Dudman scoring very well. However the winner of the Alan Prentice was Mike “Malawi” Goodall (after some controversy that is best left with him). Nearest the pin was Ray Dudman and longest drive was Jonathon Webb.

We then enjoyed a hearty roast lunch as usual washed down by the club claret.

The majority of ERGS members then played a pairs competition in the afternoon with Jeff Smith and Jonathan Mitchell looking to complete a treble. It was not to be however as Andy Shields/Malawi, and Mike Chard /Ray Dudman both put in very good scores. The eventual clear winners of the Panton Trophy with some exceptional scoring were Peter Vaughan and Jonathon Webb.

I’d like to thank the members that hosted guests to swell our numbers and I would encourage anyone connected to the club to register an interest in playing some social golf.

The next meeting will be at another local course - possibly West Hill,West Byfleet, Effingham or Burhill - so do please register your interest.
